Abbott’s Freestyle Libra 3 Cleared in Europe – To Launch in Early 2021

The much anticipated Freestyle Libra 3 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) has received the CE Mark in Europe.

The next generation Continuous Glucose Monitor includes:

  • A 14-day sensor which does not degrade over the wear period, meaning it maintains the same sensor accuracy throughout the wear period
  • The sensor is the smallest CGM sensor in the world – just 2 pennies thick. The price of the sensor remains the same
  • The Libre 3 system allows the user to set up alarms on their smartphone to be notified when they are out of their desired glucose range. Users can also check their phone at any time to see what their current blood glucose level is. The readings are updated every 1 minute!

Abbott plans to launch the Freestyle Libre 3 system in the coming months in Europe. There is no word yet on when Abbott will be launching this system in North America.
