The Dexcom G6 CGM is Now Covered in Quebec – Brings Total To 5 Canadian Provinces

Some great news coming out of Canada this week. The Régie de l’Assurance Maladie du Quebec (RAMQ), which is responsible for the management of the Québec Health Insurance Plan and of the Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan, announced that the Dexcom G6 continuous Glucose Monitor will now be covered under the province’s health care program.

Who Qualifies For a Dexcom G6 CGM in Quebec

Anyone diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, two years or older, residing in Quebec, is now eligible to receive provincial coverage for the Dexcom G6 CGM System.

This announcement is a significant accomplishment in increasing access to life changing technology used in the management of type 1 diabetes, especially for those that don’t have private insurance coverage and were not in a financial position to afford a CGM.

Not only does access to this type of technology allow people living with type 1 diabetes to be better equipped to manage their glucose levels, they will now also be able to order and pick up their Dexcom CGM supplies directly through their local pharmacy.

Which Provinces Provide Coverage For a Dexcom G6 CGM in Canada

As of late spring 2021, the following provinces provide coverage for a Decom G6 CGM: Quebec, Yukon, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. We hope to see coverage expanded to the remaining provinces in Canada. Cost should never be a barrier in properly managing Type 1 Diabetes.
